December 2020 Technique Blog Hop – Thumping Technique

Dec 7, 2020 | Technique Blog Hop

Welcome to the December 2020 Technique Blog Hop! I’m excited to be a part of this fun collaboration with fellow Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators. This month’s theme is the Thumping Technique. Keep reading to see my project below, then make sure to hop over to the other blogs to check out more great projects featuring the Thumping Technique.

Thumping Technique

The Thumping Technique is a way to get a variation of color on a stamped image. First, ink up your stamp with a light color ink. Then take a marker of a different color and thump (or tap) the tip over the inked up stamp. Rotate the stamp as you go to vary the direction of the thumping. Add as much or as little of the marker color as desired, though you don’t want to cover the whole thing with the maker color. I used only two colors for my project, but you could add in another color or two for more variation.

The project I made starts off with a standard Whisper White cardbase. I added a 1/2″ strip of Terracotta Tile cardstock to peek out from a 2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of the Ornate Garden Designer Series Paper. This is adhered towards the top of the card. In the bottom right corner I stamped the sentiment from the Daisy Lane stamp set in Terracotta Tile ink.

For the daisies, I stamped both sizes twice using the Thumping Technique. I inked up the image with Bumblebee ink. Then, I did the thumping with the Terracotta Tile marker. I cleaned my stamps after each time so that I wouldn’t get any of the Terracotta Tile color in my Bumblebee ink pad.

Once all the daisies were stamped, I brushed some Clear Wink of Stella over the daisies to add some sparkle. Then I punched them out with the matching Daisy Punch and Medium Daisy Punch. I adhered the same size daisies together with a couple of glue dots in the center. Then I added them to the card using Dimensionals.

This was a fun technique to try out. The results are a little different each time, but gives a fun variation in the colors. Like I mentioned above, I only used the two colors, but you could definitely add another color or two. Pick a stamp and try it out with different colors!
