Creator’s Choice – Diagonal Joy Fold Card

This technique is a fun fold card that has a diagonal card front and a smaller “card” attached that opens in the opposite direction.

Instructions

To make the card base, I started with a 4-1/4″ x 11″ (scored at 5-1/2″ on the long side) piece of thick White cardstock.  On the card front portion (shown as the right side of the fold in the image below) I cut a diagonal line from the top of the fold down to the bottom right corner.

To decorate the triangle card front, I used a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Friendly Hello Designer Series Paper.  This piece is also cut diagonally, from the top left corner down to the bottom right corner.  A tip for cutting corner to corner is to start cutting from somewhere in the middle of the paper after it’s lined up in the cutting track of the Paper Trimmer (as shown below).

The remaining triangle piece can be used for another card by rotating it (this works best with non-directional patterns).

A few other pieces of cardstock are needed for this card:

  • One piece of Thick White cardstock measuring 3″ x 8″ (scored at 4″ on the long side)
  • Two pieces of Granny Apple Green cardstock measuring 2-7/8″ x 3-7/8″
  • Two pieces of White cardstock measuring 2-3/4″ x 3-3/4″

Once all the cardstock pieces are cut, it’s time to stamp and assemble.  I used the Friendly Hello stamp set with Fresh Freesia and Granny Apply Green ink to stamp the sentiments and flower image.

When assembling, I adhered the White stamped layers to the Granny Apple Green layers.  Then added these layers to the small “card” so that the fold was along the right edge.

This small “card” is adhered to the inside of the card base so that when the triangle flap is closed the small card flap closes over top and can lay flat.

It’s fun to see that the same layout can be used for pretty much any occasion!
