Painting with Bleach Technique

The Painting with Bleach technique is just like it sounds.  Pour a small amount of bleach in a small bowl/container and use a paintbrush to “paint” the bleach inside a stamped and heat embossed image.  The bleach reacts with the cardstock, but not with the embossed area.  The result is a lighter or different color area (depending on which color cardstock you use) where the bleach was applied.

It is very important to work with caution when using bleach. Clean your brush and bowl right away when done with the bleach.

Instructions

I started my card by heat embossing the large Daisy Garden image with clear embossing powder on a 5″ x 3-3/4″ piece of Garden Green cardstock.

After heat embossing, I used a small paintbrush to “paint” the bleach onto the flower petal areas of the stamped/embossed image.  The bleach made those areas a light yellow color, which worked out well for the daisy flowers.

Since the bleached-out color was a light yellow, I layered the stamped piece onto a 5-1/8″ x 3-7/8″ piece of So Saffron cardstock.  Then I added this layered piece to a Garden Green card base (11″ x 4-1/4″ and scored at 5-1/2″ on the long side) using Dimensionals.

For the sentiment piece, I stamped the word “friend” from the Daisy Lane stamp set with Garden Green ink on white cardstock.  Then, I punched it out using the Tailored Tag punch and added it to the card with a few Dimensionals.

To do the inside of the card, I stamped on a 5″ x 3-3/4″ piece of white cardstock.  The sentiment is stamped with Garden Green ink and the flower with So Saffron ink.

It’s always interesting when working with bleach.  We did some stamping with bleach last year, so check out that post (and blog hop) for other ideas.

I love how you picked up the bleached out color when you added the So Saffron color! Very pretty card! Daisies are a favorite for me!
